Despite the US Airways (US) merger looming large on the minds of most frequent fliers with a vested interest in the American Airlines (AA) universe, there has been almost no major information released by either carrier worth making a fuss about in the last few weeks. Frustrating for some but entirely expected. For those starved for news, there have been a few minor changes and updates to the way American Airlines is operating that have trickled out in the past few days that might be worth noting though.
- AA recently updated the page with information on their use of Samsung Galaxy tablets as in-flight entertainment on certain aircraft and routes to note that they are now available on flights between Honolulu (HNL) and Kahului (OGG) and the carrier’s hub in Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW). LINK.
- In other in-flight entertainment news, signs seem to point at the availability of the above mentioned Samsung Galaxy tablets being added to some 737 transcon flights operated by AA. Information posted on TravelingBetter.com notes that this may be a new offering, a mistake, or a testing phase.
- AA’s inaugural service between DFW and Seoul (ICN) will launch this morning on the carrier’s older Boeing 772 model. This will bring the total number of cities served by the carrier on their own metal to four, joining Tokyo (NRT), Beijing (PEK), and Shanghai (PVG). This is AA’s first new Asian city since they discontinued service to Delhi on 3/1/2012. Fingers crossed here that it isn’t the last.
- AA will be changing some of their flights numbers in anticipation of their pending merger with US. Changes will start with American Eagle and ExpressJet flights in July. I’ve heard changes to AA mainline flights will start in August. Please note that despite the shoddy reporting evident from the writer’s assertion that US & AA have yet to determine what their combined carrier will be called, the flight number changes are factual: LINK.
