Malaysia Airlines Selects Hong Kong As Its Third A380 Destination

OW BANNERZ

A few weeks back I posted about Malaysia Airlines (MH) launching service to their second A380 destination – Paris.  As of yesterday the carrier is also operating that aircraft once daily on the Hong Kong (HKG) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) corridor, making HKG the carrier’s third A380 destination.  The aircraft will be replacing a Boeing 737, increasing the number of seats MH offers on the route since the carrier only operates two flights per day between the city pairs.

oneworld member Cathay Pacific also operates 4 flights per day on this route with the exception of Mondays where they only operate 3 flights.

The flights operated by the A380 will be MH72 departing from KUL and MH73 departing from HKG.

Since MH has only operated this aircraft on long haul routes to London’s Heathrow and Paris’ Charles de Gaulle, this new development opens an intersting opportunity for travelers and oneworld afficianados looking to sample MH’s newest bird.  This short A380 route could make an interesting addition to someone’s revenue or award ticket.

Sadly one way fares on these flights are running around $550 for business class and $1400 for first class, so not an ideal price point for a quick run.  Using AA miles on these routes would cost you 22,500 for business class and 32,500 for first class.

If you’re interested in redeeming your British Airways Avios on this route the pricing comes out as follows for HKG-KUL one way:

Business class -

BA in J

First class (politely ignore my lack of Avios, hence the blacked out pricing options) -

BA in F
