American Airlines (AA)

AA announced major changes to the aircraft interiors and usage for domestic routes.  All deliveries of new aircraft for domestic service will feature inflight WiFi, inflight entertainment, USB access, and AC outlets in all cabins.  Additionally, AA announced that transcontinental service will be moved to Airbus A321T aircraft  in a 3 class configuration.  The first and business class cabins will feature lie-flat seats.  LINK.

AA employee Ellen Herberer was featured in a Wall Street Journal post regarding customer service in an age of kiosks and self-service terminals.  LINK.

AA CEO Horton recently hinted at the possibility of a new branding/livery for the carrier.  Speculation has run rampant in recent months due to AA’s planned usage of the Boeing 787 which is composed of non-metallic composite materials that will complicate the carrier’s standard polished aluminum appearance.  LINK.

AA recently celebrated the 70 years service provided by Azriel “Al” Blackman.  The mechanic began working for AA when he was 16 and currently has no plans to retire.  LINK.

British Airways (BA)

BA will cancel service from London Heathrow (LHR) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) from 1/7/13 until 2/2/13 due to seasonal low demand.

BA will cancel one of three daily flights (BA104/105) between London Heathrow (LHR) to Dubai (DXB) from 1/7/203 until 2/4/2013 due to seasonal low demand.

BA will start operating wide body 767 aircraft on domestic routes to Edinburgh (EDI) and Glasgow (GLA) to London Heathrow (LHR) starting 10/28/2012.

Cathay Pacific (CX)

CX has signed an interline agreement with JetBlue.  LINK.

Japan Airlines (JL)

The use of Boeing 787 aircraft on the Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Beijing (PEK) route has been further delayed from 8/1/2012 to 9/1/2012.  Boeing 767 aircraft will be used in the meantime.

Malaysia Airlines (MH)

Member-elect MH will introduce Airbus A380 aircraft on its Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) route starting 11/25/2012.  Approximately half of all flights on the route will feature the new aircraft.  The other portion of flights will be operated by Boeing 777 aircraft.

Qantas (QF)

QF continues to explore partnership with Emirates.  LINK.

SriLankan Airlines (UL)

Member-elect UL will cancel service between Colombo (CMB) and Manama, Bahrain (BAH) effective 9/1/2012.
