Oneworld Alliance Updates 7/17/2012

American Airlines (AA)

AA has announced that they will be discontinuing the “non-expiring miles” program it has kept since July of 1989.  Starting 11/1/2012, all non-expiring miles will be converted to standard AAdvantage miles with a 25% bonus.  For those who would like to use their old miles prior to the change, here are two links to the old award chart on JonNYC‘s Flickr account:  LINK and LINK.  AA’s webpage on the conversion can be found here:  LINK.

AA is increasing service service between the United States and Brazil in its winter schedule.  Flights will increase between MIA-REC, JFK-GRU, MIA-GIG, and MIA-SSA.  Details view this LINK.

AA is adding a third daily flight between MIA and Bogota (BOG) on Boeing 757 aircraft on 11/15/2012.

British Airways (BA)

BA is changing the departure terminal at London Heathrow (LHR) for many existing flights starting with the launch of its winter schedule service on 10/28/2012.  Flights to Aberdeen (ABZ), Agadir (AGA), Bergen (BGO), Bologna (BLQ), Edinburgh (EDI), Manchester (MAN), Oslo (OSL), Stavanger (SVG), and Zurich (ZRH) will now depart from Terminal 5.  Flights to Basel (BSL), Belfast (BFS), Dusseldorf (DUS), Hanover (HAJ), Luxembourg (LUX), Lyon (LYS), Marseille (MRS), and Toulouse (TLS) will now depart from Terminal 1.  LINK.

BA is reducing London Heathrow (LHR) to Phoenix, AZ (PHX) service back to 6x weekly.  BA had recently increased the service to daily service in June.

BA has launched an aviation poster book.  The book contains nearly 200 posters detailing the history of British aviation advertising.  LINK.

Cathay Pacific (CX) and Dragonair (KA)

CX was awarded the “World’s Best Business class” award by Skytrax.  LINK.

KA will resume daily service between Hong Kong (HKG) and Haikou, China (HAK) on 10/28/2012 on Airbus A320 aircraft.

Finnair (AY)

AY was named “Northern Europe’s Best Airline” by Skytrax for the 3rd straight year.  LINK.


LA’s first Boeing 787 has been completed at Boeing’s factory in Everett, WA.  LA will become the second airline after JAL (JL) in the oneworld alliance to fly the 787 when it is delivered in September.  The first LA route to use these aircraft will most likely be Los Angeles (LAX) or Buenos Aires (EZE).  LINK.

Malaysia Airlines (MH)

oneworld member-elect MH was awarded a 5 Star rating from Skytrax, joining fellow oneworld alliance member Cathay Pacific as one of 6 airlines in the world to carry the rating.  LINK.

Qantas (QF)

QF was named as having the “Best First Class Lounge” for it’s flagship Sydney Kingsford (SYD) facility by Skytrax.  LINK.

Royal Jordanian (RJ)

RJ has announced plans to start flights from Amman (AMM) to Almaty, Kazakhstan (ALA) after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.  Flights would start in September 2013.  LINK.
